1. Benefit Concert
• Date: TBA
• Time: TBA
• Location: TBA
• Roots & will be holding a benefits concert to raise funds for another Roots & Shoots organization in India with limited resources that is trying to save sea turtles. We'll need lots of help to organize this project so contact Becca Rose if you're interested. Musically talented individuals are especially welcome!
2. Greening Berkeley Initiative
• Date: Tentative April 26, 2008
• Time: 10am-2pm
• Location: TBA
• Members of Roots & Shoots will work together with the Greening Berkeley Initiative and local community leaders in community service projects like environmental cleanups, rennovations, etc. More information on each month's specific project will be presented as the work day approaches. Contact Jessica Huang for more information.
3. Youth Tutorials at LeConte Elementary
• Date: First tutorial will begin on Friday, February 22 and will continue on a weekly basis.
• Time: 3-4pm
• Location: LeConte Elementary
• Roots & Shoots members teach an environmental class at LeConte Elementary weekly. For more information, contact Maddy Tiee or Samantha Browde
4. CHO mentoring
• Date: April 4, 2008
• Time: 2-4pm
• Location: Children's Hospital of Oakland
• Ongoing project where Roots & Shoots members teach science and work with children (varying ages) at Children's Hospital of Oakland. For more information, contact Alex Christensen
5. St. Mark's Soup Kitchen
• Date: April 19, 2008
• Time: 1:30-4pm and/or 4:30-6:30pm
• Location: St. Mark's Episocopal Church
• Once a month, Roots & Shoots members volunteer to cook and/or serve dinner for the homeless. There are two shifts: the first from 1:30-4pm is mainly for cooking and preparing while the second shift from 4:30-6:30pm is for directly serving homeless individuals. For more information, contact Alex Christensen
6. Berkeley Animal Shelter
• Date: April 5, 2008
• Time: 10am-2pm
• Location: 2013 Second Street, Berkeley, CA 94710
• Roots & Shoots members will Visit our local animal shelter to visit and work with homeless animals. Contact Kala Chapman for more information.
